Here is volume #9 of the series that started way back in 1998.

A cd with twenty-seven (27) tracks of definitely rare and rarely played material.

Don’t know from whose collection these gems are from, but I am glad to have them.

A mixed bag of single artists with unnamed groups as well as some familiar group names await you here. Some of these recordings I could find no info at all on. Hoping some of you, my readers, will be able to fill in these missing gaps.

Let’s see what Rarest Of The Rare Volume #9 has in store for us.

1. Green For Go – Darts (At 1:26 seconds it is the quickest uptempo!!) Sounds like a recent recording. No info available.

2. What’s this I Hear – David Gates ’60 Mala (Very nice ballad)

3. Keep The Magic (add Working) – Shirley Gee & Halos (s/b Shirley Gee) ’61 7 Arts (Ms Gee is none other than Shirley Goodman of Shirley & Lee fame backed by the unnamed Halos on this very good Rocker) play

4. For Sentimental Reasons – Montereys ’63 GNP Crescendo (May just be the best rendition of this Standard. Super ballad)

5. Two Kinds Of People – Lucky Clark ’61 Chess (Good remake of Tough Tony’s ’58 flip of “Tears On My Pillow”)

6. Warm – Iridescents unreleased acappella ballad (very nice)

7. Impression – Danetta & Starlets ’62 Okeh (Very nice ballad by Danetta & her ladies)

8. Cruisin’ Baby (S/b Crusin’) – Rudy & Cruisers (only Cruisers) ’59 Winston (Good stroll)

9. Fool In Love – Vel-tones ’59 Satellite $125 & Mercury (Rocker!)

10. Here I Am – Impacts unreleased Watts? (Nice! Ballad should have been released)

11. It Wasn’t A Dream – Kalani Kealoha ’60 United Artists (Nice ballad from the Aloha State) play

12. I Promise – Bobolinks (s/b Bob-O-Links) ’62 Hi-Ho (Originally on Way-Lin in ’59 as Memories with different flip side $400) Ballad here

13. Lullabye Serenade – Del-Los (s/b De-Los) ’62 Cedar (Another nice ballad)

14. Strong Love – Iridescents ’63 Hudson (Would ya believe another ballad)

15. Whispering Words Of Love – Pop & Fidelitones ’60 Poop Deck (Sock Smoker!)

16. Wrap My Heart In Velvet – Johnny Cole & Reptiles ’61 Radiant $125 (On fire now. Ballad)

17. My Love For You – Don Angelo ’60 Mercury (Still rubbin’ bellies)

18. What Do You Do When – Gary Lane & Mad Lads ’63 Cu Ca (Gonna need to come up for air shortly! Hmm 9 ballads in a row.) play

19. I Met An Angel – Tommy Bedwell ’60 Debut (Could definitely lead to BED! Ballad)

20. Dance – Dolphins ’62 Gemini & Tip Top (Whew a break!! Darn good Rocker!)

21. In The Still Of The Night – Iridescents unreleased demo. (Five Satins they ain’t)

22. Why Am I Crying – Daneal Derris yr unk J-Gems (Ms Daneal sounds very, very nice.)

23. I’m Sorry Dear – Don Angelo the flip side of Trk#17. Ballad side here also

24. Endlessly – Four Uniques ’63 U.S.A $150 (Gee what?? Imagine another Uptempo)

25. My Angel – Viscount V yr unk Lavette (Thank Goodness! A Ballad! LOL)

26. To The Aisle – Bob Riley ’59 Coral EP (Nice, but not Bill Baker)

27. My Heart Belongs To Only You – Mary Swan ’58 Swan (Great job on this standard)

Well there they are. Not very expensive sides, but definitely rare ones.

Brand new release for the fall of 2003. Should have no problem finding it at your favorite oldies outlet.
